Everyone is Inventor?

Four years ago the word ‘inventor’ could bring few associations, something like Archimedes, Leonardo Da Vinci, Thomas Edison, the Russell Crowe’s hero from “Beautiful Mind” movie, or a crazy old-man from “Back to the Future” trilogy, it meant a specific lifestyle, a profession, a job, - and a thought of calling myself an inventor was impossible. But the more I was getting deeper into the world of inventors and inventions the more I realized that we are all inventors within. Searching for new areas of human interests, new industries, new machines and tools, new ways of using already discovered things, - it’s all built-in in ourselves: to develop and make progress. And if to focus and discover the world of innovations in depth, researching how to improve and/or minimize already existing products mostly belongs to huge corporations and their laboratories, the ideas and products which start new industries and services significantly lies on independent inventors. Let’s take a look at statistics: Google, which does – let’s say – 40% of the total searches done on the major search engines, says that every month there are around 3,5-4 million queries from “how to patent an idea” to “inventor” or “invention” – and it’s only at Google and only in USA. I am sure that all of those queries were made by us, regular people; there is no need in doing precise calculations to perceive the message: everyone is or can be an inventor. A mother with her child who discovers a new baby-sack to bring more comfort while travelling for both of them; car lover who comes up with a new option or mechanism to make his ride more comfortable or safe; shortsighted man who once got sick of wearing glasses and was struck with idea of some kind of ‘see well’ eye-sticks, gave his idea to chemists to find a solution and now we have eye-contacts, and so much much more…And once you are in, you notice – it’s not a job, not a profession but a state of mind to always ask oneself – how can I improve it? What if I do it another way? And what’s also important – to be confident about what do you have to do with your idea...
